Carmen on Ice (1990)

This racy and rousing adaptation of Bizet's immortal opera is an unexpected delight. Beautifully directed and performed by some of the top figure skaters such as Katarina Witt, Brian Boitano and Yvonne Gomes, this Carmen is hot enough to melt the ice. A first-of-its kind combination of figure skating, drama, music and dance and the most lavish ice-skating production ever, Carmen On Ice was shot with a $3.5 million budget on location in Seville, Spain on a portable synthetic ring contoured and coloured to blend in with the city's streets. The performance was screened recently on the Ovation Channel, receiving a rapturous responce from the viewers.
